What should I do to become an efficient ER nurse?

I'm a fresh BSN grad from the Philippines. I plan to work here first.

warning: this answer is from a very non-related course.

just get an experience appropriate for whatever you want. i heard 2 years of experience will make you one. think that's all that matters for jobs nowadays aside from passing all the test and having good curricular records during college. plus, i think you just dont only have to be efficient, you also have to be effective etc, etc.. browse the requirements for your targeted job and have them all in time. good luck!

Work on planning ahead and anticipating needs. By that I mean, when your patient comes into the room, greet them in the room or as soon as you can, investigate why they are here and how you can help them. As you go along you will learn what drs like which test for each complaint. There will also be "protocols" which will determine which tests you will begin for which complaint. Before long you will be starting your IV's, drawing your blood and getting your urine samples collected and sent to the lab before the doctor even enters the room. This helps to speed up the ER especially when it is backlogged. You will also learn eventually which meds you will be giving and what to do to discharge the patient home before the docs order it. Good Luck to you! Sounds like your gonna be a great nurse!

buy this book" Mosby's Manuel of Emergency Care
it is small enough to bring with you and use as a resource
as i did many years ago
