Does anyone have personal experience with the Nurse Corps in the military?

I am a senior nursing student in a BSN program in Louisiana. I'm set to graduate in July, and I have been thinking about career options. I am married with an 8 month old. I know that the money is in the private sector, but I feel compelled to serve. I'd like to hear the pros and cons about joining the Nurse Corp (probably Air Force or Navy) from people that have experience with it. Is the salary dramatically reduced? Do the other perks make up for the salary gap? How long is the committment?

If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. I've been doing soul searching, but I'd like some outside perspective... THANKS!!!

Yeah baby
