Dr.s or Nurses out there? While I was hospitalized, I was given a "hip shot", except the nurse gave me the .. |
shot (I'm 99.999% sure) right on my sciatic nerve, when given the shot I remember it burning and brought me to tears, it also produced a huge bruise where the injection was given and now (3 months later) I am still in pain from the shot and at times I can hardly walk and have pain shooting down my leg. I had a X-ray done about 3 weeks after my surgery, because I my Dr. wanted to look at my kidneys (and I saw a huge white spot on the X-ray-I think it was the "shot" showing up).....my question is: if they hit my nerve, will this heal eventually on it's own OR is it permanent damage?? It doesn't seem to be healing...the injection site is still very sore all of the time and also throbs at times....does anyone know the answer to this??????? Thank you! I believe it was Demerol (sp?) and it is about 2 inches from my spine on the left side and about 3 inches down from my waist. Yes, I did tell my family Dr. and am going back to see him and tell him again on Monday. "Hip shot" is a slang term that is used around here..... nurse too! well if the shot did hit a nerve you should let the doctor know about your feelings and concerns and especially about the pain. nerves usually do not regenerate or heal. but then again im not a doctor. if the drug that was injected was demerol it was an IM (intramuscular) injection and it could have hit a nerve, but demerol is a drug that actually relieves pain. all in all just let your doctor know and he/she should help you in it. a nurse here, where exactly did you get the shot? was it really in "the hip"? if so, that is odd, i only give shots in the upper outer portion of the butt cheek, not usually in the hip, it may have hit a nerve, have you told your MD? you need to, soon, if you are still having pain. by the way, what kind of medicine did you get in the shot? |
