2 questions...1 about leg cramps and 1 about heartburn or maybe acid reflux?

1st Q. Can heartburn cause vomiting or is it more likely acid reflux? This may be TMI for some people but last night I had severe heartburn and then I vomited twice...really digusting and it burned badly.

2nd Q. The other night I had a leg cramp in my calf and today it stills hurts...like a nagging ache still. What can I do to help the pain ease up some?

I have a call into my midwife about the vomiting but she is delivering a baby right now and the nurse said she would have her call me back as soon as possible but she didn't think it was anything to worry about.

Anyone else deal with these 2 problems? I never have in any of my pregnancies.

Thanks for the wisdom and insight you may have!

I'll be 33 weeks on wednesday...I do have the ok to use Tums and do sometimes.

A1.
Tums is your best bet. Stay away from carbonated beverages. Drink a glass of milk when you get the burning.

A2.
Actually... Leg cramps are generally due to a POTASSIUM deficiency. Try eating more Bananas but don't over due it because they are also high in sugar. Also, stretch out your legs more and don't massage you legs when you get the leg cramps, just incase there is a bloodclot, you don't want to dislodge it, but rather let your own body break it down. So, when you get a leg cramp stretch out your leg and pull your toes toward you to stretch out the muscles.

I had such heartburn with my 1st pregnancy! It was night and day. I never did get sick but came darn close a few times. I found at night if I kept my head elevated on a couple pillows it helped a lot. My OB gave me the ok for Tums or Rolaids, but I would check with your midwife when she calls you back. Im not sure how far along you are but my heartburn went away eventually for a few months then crept back for the last trimester (not as bad though).

Good Luck and I hope you're feeling better soon.

I can help with the heartburn. If can be a side effect of being pregnant or it could be Acid Reflux. Either way, try eating raw honey or black strap molasses to help from turning the heartburn in to a vomiting session, because yes heartburn can cause nausea which can in turn cause vomiting.

I get leg cramps when I need calcium, and it happens the worst for me at about 6 months. (It also happens if I am backpacking or something and dont drink milk) I take tums or calcium supplements to help. Tums are safe, and I take 2 each day when I start getting the leg cramps. When I am pregnant even 5 glasses of milk a day isnt enough!

I have heard that potasium helps too, so eat a banana.

I agree, leg cramps is your body telling you that you need calcium. I had really bad heartburn when I was pregnant, and lived on tums. it also helps with the leg cramps cause they contain calcium. Good luck!!

I also get leg cramps right before my period is about to start..
