A touch of jondice?

(sorry if i cant spell jondice first of all)my 6 day old newborn is just a little jondice from what the home nurse told me yesterday.. she said to sit him in our bay window for a couple times a day..but for some reason the stupid sun wont shine in now that he is home.. so are they any other ways to take care of this ..the weather is nice out but i just dont want his skin to get burnt ? any suggestions? thanks

expose him to the sun in short periods.. if it increases, at the hospital they can put your little one under special lights to cure it.

Rub him down with sun block and take him out for a walk...
you could prob. use the exercise too am I right?

Most of the time no medical treatment is needed for jaundice. Typically, jaundice begins to develop 24 hours after birth and usually disappears or decreases on its own within a week without causing problems. If you are breast-feeding, feeding your baby more frequently (8 to 10 times every 24 hours) may help minimize the degree of jaundice.

Phototherapy is sometimes needed, which involves exposing the baby to a type of fluorescent light. As the light is absorbed into the skin, the bilirubin changes so it becomes more easily excreted in the stool and urine. Standard phototherapy is usually done in a hospital, although occasionally babies are treated at home. Phototherapy with fiber-optic blankets or bands can be used for mild jaundice. These usually can be used at home; sometimes they are used in combination with standard phototherapy.

If your baby's jaundice is caused by an underlying condition, other treatments may be needed.

The only way is to sit him in sunlight. Just put sunscreen on him if you are worried about it. Find a window that does have sunlight or take him outside if the weather is permitting.

Jaundice is fixed by phottherapy only. Whether it be sunlight or fluorescent light beds, it is the only way to help. Although sometimes it does dissipate on its own if it is not severe.

The nurse will check his color again and if he looks more yellow you should let the doctor know. Especially if you can't provide adequate lighting for him at home he may need Bili lights instead.

Good Luck and it will get better. Lots of babies come home jaundice, it is easily fixed.

Nurse him, nurse him, and nurse him some more! My 5 month old was jaundiced after he was born, and, since I live in Alaska, there was NO daylight to even put him in. I stuck to my guns and nursed him through it. Breastmilk is a natural laxative and will help the body clear out quickly.

Take him outside for a few mins of sun per day.

Breastfeed frequently. This helps to flush jaundice out of their systems.

Bryan had it when he was born, he had it at the hospital. They told me to have him in the sun light also, but with him be a feb. baby. There was not that much light and it was to cold to take him out in it. So I just keep all the shads in the house open and him near a window in the play pin or a swing and a few days later it was gone. Just because you don't see the sun does not mean that there is no sun light coming in. When it is some what cloudy some rays are still coming out. So just keep it bright in the house and he will be fine. When you go to his next doctors appt. they will see how much jondice he has. They told me not to worrie about it. When he went for his frist check up. They said as long as I am keeping some light near him he will be fine.
