Malaria - Do I Have It? |
Is it possible to have contracted maleria from Malta? I have very bad reactions to mosquito bites at home and on holiday. When I go away to this country I am generally ill at some point for 4 days. I get symptoms of maleria, Flu like, high temp, shaking as if cold but burning up, very dizzy/headaches, comes on generally in the evening and lasts most of the night. Saw a doctor in Malta as I was very ill last summer and he thought I may be a dormant maleria carrier and it comes out when I get bitten a lot (as last year at home and abroad). Don't know what to do now I am going away again in Summer and do not want to spend 1/2 my holiday in bed again. Saw a nurse yesterday be she was not very helpful said I would only catch it if I had been to tropical countries. Malta is only 100 miles from Tripoli surely these things can fly. If you think you have this I would get my butt to a doctor. You're dealing with a parasite that deals with the liver and red blood cells. Signs you gave...I would be concerned. Starts out as Asexual and than goes into Gametoctes. Please see a doctor, I hope you're going to be alright dear... go to your doctors and get blood tests done asap someone i know went to majorca last sept and has just been diagnosed with it! she has been put on antibiotics for two months and needs more bloods taken after that! The countries that have NO malaria risk in any area are as follows, listed alphabetically: Yes that could be malaria. Go to a doctor and he can prescribe you chloroquine (which is the treatment for Malaria) or a prophylaxis drug known as Mefloquine. Malaria is dominant in tropical places because they prefer the habitat there. A dormant malaria means the symptoms aren't showing yet. Just consult your doctor before it's too late. You can confirm you have malaria through a thick and thin blood smear. Get well soon. Sounds to me as though you might have some form of malaria. If your doctor does not think a blood test is necessary, contact the hospital for tropical diseases in London, they deal with this all the time. It is unlikely to be Malaria, but if you have any concerns then pop down to your GP and ask if you can have a blood test. I think it is quite possible. Get the old standby medicine of quinine-some doctors treat with an extract of quinine nowadays. Try to get to a doctor who will treat you, as the others seem like a bunch of idiots. I assume the likelihood is low but it is not worth taking risks. I agree with Kristie the crohnie...she about stole my post...get to a doctor ASAP. |
