Why is my taste bud hanging out?

Hi. I have one taste bud that looks like it was literally pulled out, partially .. and it's a little sore if I eat something that rubs against it. I have been to a nurse who said it's probably related to an internal virus, or a burn. She said to rinse my mouth with warm salt water a few times a day. I tried that, no results except for a really dry throat. I don't know how to get rid of this! I'm not even sick! :-( Please help.
