For a doctor or nurse please? |
I went to my doctor he prescribed Pyridium for my bladder infection. He said it wasn't to fix it but it would tell him if my problem was an infection or if there was a problem with the actual lining of the bladder. He said to call his nurse and tell her if the medicine took away the burning or not. It took away the burning...what does that tell him? i know he told me but I can't remember if that means i probably have a problem with the lining or if that means i just have an infection. can anyone help? I know that when I have an infection, Pyridium takes away the burning for about a day or so. It does not treat the infection, though. But Pyridium is a urinary analgesic, and even if you had a problem with the lining, it is possible that Pyridium could make it feel better. Sometimes problems with the lining of the bladder can also cause bladder spasms, but Pyridium does not help with bladder spasms. The best site to ask this would be webMD. If it took away the burning it means you didn't have a UTI. Did the doctor not have you give him a urine sample when you saw him? That would be the typical procedure. The Pyridium would be prescribed to relieve your discomfort while he had the urine sample analyzed. I would assume that the reason he asked you to tell his nurse whether the Pyridium took away the burning is to make sure that the medicine is working and that you don't need an alternative for the pain. By the time you talk to the nurse, the doctor should know if you have an infection and can prescribe an appropriate antibiotic, if indicated. |
