My nipples have nerve damage from breastfeeding, how can I help them heal?

any advice other moms? my nipples burn deep within and I had my lactation nurse help me on positioning but in the meantime is there anything else I can do to enhance the healing process?

Mdm, Use saliva and let it dry. Further breast feeding may also enhance the healing process.

nipple pads are good

GO TO THE DOCTOR AND ASK HIM FOR SOME MEDICIBNE THIS IS THE BEST ANSWER AND RUB THEM DOWN WITH LOTION

let them breathe
leave them alone
it seems like someone is bitting 2 much

just naturally...its the best way...speeding the process doesn't work

stop breast feeding, use a rubbing compound..avoid contact...also go to Web MD for more answers

Ask your nurse for that ointment that they give for sore and hurting breast...it's a life saver. Or you can try pumping and giving your baby bottled breast milk so they can heal.

lansinoh nipple cream works wonders!

firstly keep on nursing, no matter how much it hurts. when i had my first i went to the pharmacy and got some nipple shield. they are thin plastic covers that you place on the breast as the baby feeds. this way the sheild gets most of the babies gumming and not your breast. within a few days your nipples will heal and you can continue useing the sheild till your baby is a couple months old and has a strong latch, so he/she won't damage your nipples again.

Try Lanisoh cream or Lanolin. Also, you can let them air out and apply some breastmilk to them to let them heal a little better. If it hurts to keep nursing, before trying to just pump (which can dwindle your supply), apply ice to the nipples to numb them a bit. It will get better over time! I had sore, cracked, bleeding nipples for 6 weeks due to an incorrect latch, and had I had the support and information you seem to have, I would have stuck with it for much longer. Good luck to you!
**Some LC are against a nipple shield because they can ruin an already bad latch, so ask your LC before trying to buy one.

I'm still trying to figure out how you get nerve damage from breastfeeding.

When my nipples were stressed, especially when my babies were first learning to nurse, I used a nipple guard. It looks like a nipple for a bottle, but is moulded to fit over the areola and it relieves the stress placed on the breast as you feed the baby.

If your baby is new to nursing, or when you are new to nursing, you can feel the way you describe. Positioning is a big help. I had severely painful plugged milk ducts, and couldn't relieve the pressure, till I figured out a nursing position to use. Then the baby's nursing did the job to unblock the plugged duct. I laid on the floor on my back, and put the baby face down with his feet facing away from me over my shoulder and his head towards my feet. We were in a straight line, and his lower jaw in that position did the job of unplugging the milk duct. Looked strange, but it sure made me feel better.
