Very sore and cracked nipples?

My daughter is almost 4 months old and for the first time since I started nursing I have severe cracked nipples (mainly my right one) Ive been putting the lansinoh cream on it and it helps but is there anything else I can do to ease the pain and heal my nipples!!

Also after I pump while Im at work my nipples burn and itch for about 5 minutes..what can I do?!

thanks :)

It sounds like you could have an infection of Thrush (Candida). Have you checked your baby's mouth to see if there are any white patches? Many times the baby shows these symptoms if there is an infection - but not all the time.

This is a fairly common ailment, and I would make an appointment with your doctor to have it checked out and get some medication for some relief!

Hope you feel better soon!

I would call a lactation specialist in your area and talk to them about it. Good luck

petroleum jelly and a bag of peas, keep they moisturized

you also might have some thrush you should call your doctor and make sure your baby doesn't contract it

Get some nipple shields, rub breast milk into the nipple, let that air dry, then use the lansinoh. You could also try not feeding on that side for a day or two and pump that side to maintain that side. Good luck in healing.

The lansinol cream should help, but you should also consider leaving your nipple out for a few minutes to air dry after feedign or pumping.

The breast milk itself should also speed up healing, you can just rub it over your nipple and let it dry before applying the cream.

Make sure you clean them with non abrasive soaps when you're in the shower and that's about all you can do.

You can take tylenol to relieve any discomfort from them, maybe before feeding or a pump.

You can use breast sheilds when nursing if it's really painful, but that should only be used in worse case scenerios.

Is your daughter perhaps a little rough lately? Is she teething and sucking harder than usual, cracked & sore nipples can be a result of that.

Good luck!
.

I had my visiting nurse tell me to take a cabbage leaf (yes, a CABBAGE leaf!) and lightly crunch it in your hand, then put it in your bra. I never had the problem myself, so I have no idea if it really works, however it sounded weird enough that it just may work! Good Luck!

I just finished breast feeding & what worked for me was cocoa butter. Not the lotion but the thick stuff. I used to rub a small amount around my nipples then place a warm wash cloth over it for a few minutes then wipe it off. I hope it works for you if try it & congrats on the baby.

my nurses told me that if cracked nipples ever happened to rub the breast milk around the nipple to stop and prevent cracking or soreness.
