Why do they put tape over piercings for surgery?

I understand one reason they dont like piercings in is if they have to jump start your heart it can cause burn marks at the site of the piercing but does tape really stop this? Is there another reason why they do it? I cant seem to get a straight answer when ever I have surgery - almost like the nursing staff dont really know either but they still insist on it being done.

I think the main reason is that if they are not taped over, doctors can actually get their scrubs & what not caught in the piercing itself causing injuries to yourself

Good question. Hmmm.....

THE MAIN REASON IS BECAUSE YOUR PIERCING CAN REACT WITH THE MACHINE IT SEND PULSES THROUGH YOUR BODY AND IF THE PIERCING IS METAL IT CAN REACT THATS WHY YOU GET BURN MARK BECAUSE OR THE PULSES SENT THROUGH YOU BODY.
