Nurses what do you think..........?

Do you still enjoy nursing after all these years? Are you "burnt out"? Have you changed or thought about changing careers?

Burned out after working in a hospital where there was a lot of back stabbing. Also the long hours. 12 hour shifts and Dr who thought they were premadonas. I retired at age 62. Plus working nights for 20 years took its toll. If I had it to do over again. I think I would go into computers or a degree in biology and work in the lab. Or ultrasound tech.

I have been in the field for 21 years now- a very short stint working in a nursing home which wasn't challenging enough for me. Since then I have worked as a float nurse, floating all around a hospital. Every day is very different, which is something I immensely enjoy. Even before being a nurse, I was still doing hands-on patient care, so I guess I must enjoy the field after all the years LOL Because of every day being different for me- different floor, different patient- I have never felt burned out.

I've been a nurse for 6 years. I worked very briefly in a nursing home, but I didn't really like it. I worked inpatient psych full time for a year, which I got really burnt out on. I've been in labor and delivery for the past four years, and I love it there. Sometimes it take a little while to find your niche.

The nice thing with nursing is that if you don't want to be at the bedside, you don't have to be. There are tons of opportunities in nursing, and the type of work you can do is very diverse. I have a friend who only works on the hospital's computer system.
