Burning sensations in nipples after breastfeeding? |
I have been breastfeeding for two and a half months and haven't had any problems until last night. There is no pain or discomfort while nursing but afterwards there is a burning like sensation in my nipples that comes and goes. My little one has a habit of stretching my nipple just before releasing. She is also a very relaxed eater and sprawls out instead of eating tummy to tummy. Is it possible that she is causing some nipple damage by the way she eats? Some times she stretches so far that it hurts. I think there are probably 2 things that could be causing it. either your nipples are just irritaed or you have a case of thrush. Thrush can pass onto your baby too lol...my daughter used to do the same thing, I swear everytime she did it i would here a little voice in my head say "go, go Gadget nipples"! Anyway when ever I would feel her start to pull I would just lean forward and apply a little pressure and she would stop. That could be what was causing your discomfort. The other thing you should check is if she has thrush. Look in her mouth and see if there is any white patches on her gums or cheeks. If there is it may also have spread to your nipples which could cause you pain. Release your baby鈥檚 grasp on the nipple before removing him or her from your breast by gently sticking a finger in your baby鈥檚 mouth to release the suction. thrush I sometimes get that sensations when my baby drains my breast completely. Not much you can do about it but try to pay attention when she is nursing you might get a little tingling that will let you know you are running on empty. Also, as far as her stretching your nipple just pop your finger in her mouth between her gums and she'll release it. Remember to try and keep as much aeriola in her mouth as possible, this will help with all nipple soreness. Try formula instead its not worth being in pain. |
