Rx cream gave baby a reaction...like a burn...Advice?

My baby had a recurrance of her yeast infection. It wasn't too bad on her bottom, but bad in her mouth. So the doctor gave us a refill on her medicines, but I got a different brand of nystatin cream for her bottom.

I used it yesterday, but I also used some wipes I'd never used before. She had a terrible reaction, but I don't know to which. But whatever hurt her skin, I need help on what to do now.

In her diaper area, everywhere you'd usually wipe, she's so red, and the skin is weeping. I called the insurance nurse line, and they were really nice, but I'm still left not knowing what to do. I very gently rinse her with cool water, and I haven't put any creams on it. I'm going to leave her without a diaper as much as possible and keep her as clean as possible. It's still weeping a little, like a burn. No real blisters, though, more like cracked skin. Red, moist, cracked. She's being so sweet.

Any ideas? She's better than last night.

Go to the grocery store and get pure cornstarch and if you have a empty baby powder container pour it in it and use it every time you change her if not just sprinkle it on her bottom. Sounds strange I know but does work I had to use it on my daughter the nystaten didn't work and it was bad and my mom told me to use that and in a couple days it was almost all gone sometimes the older people know a lot more than we think. Good Luck hope it helps your little sweetie I know it has to really hurt just by the way it sounds

Poor baby!

My guess is that the most likely culprit is the wipes. Meanwhile leaving her without a diaper as much as you can is probably the best way to get her poor skin to dry out and heal.

Good luck!

use some Zinc Oxide cream. It will clear this up overnight.
