How many calories does Nursing burn off? |
I'm thinking about Nursing and my hubby is not down for it. Does it pay off? I know it's great for the baby..But will it help me get back into my shape after the baby? If I'm not mistaken you do burn calories while producing milk. They say you only need to consume about 500 extra calories than you would need for your own body. I'm not sure how that converts, but I know I nursed all 3 of mine and the baby weight came off fast. Over 600 calories a day if you dont supplement. You should read up and try to educate your hubby, maybe he wants to feed the baby too, if thats the case you can get a really good pump and express some milk so he can feed the baby mommy's milk too. I nursed my baby for about 6 months, and didn't lose a pound! They say that nursing makes the weight melt off, but not me or my friends. I gained 80 lbs with my daughter, and I've always been thin. After I weaned her, the weight came off much easier. Plus, my boobs stayed soo big for soo long, they're all stretched out and saggy now! So it may be good for the baby, but I'm still not convinced that it's good for Mommy. In the first months of nursing, before you introduce cereals or start the fruits and veggies, it can burn between 500 and 600 calories a day. That's also how many more calories you should be eating daily, being a nursing mother. Why is your husband against breastfeeding? Does he know that formula and bottles alone can cost well over $2000.00 in the first year?? Plus, breastfed babies have better brain/eye develoment, are less likely to get sick or to have frequent ear infections, and are less likely to suffer from obesity and diabetes later in life? why is he not down for it? If that is what you want to do he should respect that. Besides it really is your choice. Just like it is my choice not to breast feed when my baby is born. My fiance really wants me to, but I don't want to and that is my choice. Not his. This is one of the few decisions that should really only be decided by you. I am still nursing my 5 month old and plan to until he's a year old. I gained 30 pounds while I was pregnant and the first 20 melted off within a week. The last ten has been a little more resistant. I've read that your body tries to keep a little bit of extra fat so that if you don't eat enough your body will pull from your fat stores to produce milk. I have loved nursing my son. I NEVER wanted to until I became pregnant and started reading a lot about it. Now I am so glad that I did it. He hasn't been sick at all and we have a special bond that noone else has. Also, its not a problem for me to pump a bottle if someone is going to babysit for me or if we want to go out to eat. Formula is SO expensive and breastfeeding is FREE. Also, formula is harder on their sensitive tummies. Your baby will not have near the stomach problems if you nurse. Try it! It will hurt at first though....Just get through the first month and you are good to go. Your hubby needs to get down with it. There are plenty of other ways to bond with the baby. Not just over food. Does he know how expensive fake milk is? Does he know what its made of? Why is your hubby not behind you on this? Breastfeeding is healthier for mom and baby. Breastfeeding means less money spent on doctor visits and food for baby. Breastfeeding is the absolute best start you can give your child. Maybe he needs to learn more about it? Is he concerned about feeling left out? There are SOoooo many things he can do with baby besides feeding. Have him check out the links below. |
