How many calories do you burn when you are nursing your baby? |
How many calories do you burn when you are nursing your baby? An exclusively breastfeeding mother, on average, needs to take in 300-500 calories per day above what was needed to maintain pre-pregnancy weight. Since the recommended added calories during the last two trimesters of pregnancy is 300 calories/day, an exclusively breastfeeding mother will typically need either the same amount of calories she was getting at the end of pregnancy, or up to 200 additional calories per day. That's the equivalent of adding 1-2 healthy snacks per day. I agree with everything the first poster said, but I will add this: you need to drink a LOT more water when you're breastfeeding. It all depends on how often and how long you nurse your baby. The longer you nurse the more calories you burn, so make sure you are getting enough caloric intake and fluids to support milk production. You should be eating an extra 500-600 calories when breastfeeding. |

If I'm not mistaken you do burn calories while producing milk. They say you only need to consume about 500 extra calories than you would need for your own body. I'm not sure how that co... i'm a new nursing student and our professor hasn't asked us to that yet. But i guess, just use the format in getting the vital/cardinal signs (i think, that's required for all types ... try a soda bath, run your bath water and put some soda in it. It may burn a lot but I thin that this will help. If you have some cream that was for itching maybe this would help. I feel so sorr... I started in a retail pharmacy at $8.50/hour, and it took so much fighting to get raises that I was supposed to be given. After working for almost 2 1/2 years, I was finally making $10.00/hour. ... because they do shift work for one, usually 12-14 hours. Another is the stress. I'm assuming you mean ER nurses or acute care rather than family practitioner nurses who work in offices. I&#... Definitely normal. If you look at one of my last questions I had the EXACT SAME problem last night. I couldn't stand it anymore and finally gave him from breastmilk in a bottle.
