Did McCain father a child with his Vietnamese nurse during his time in captivity as bush claimed in 2000?

They say McCain was not treated like the other POWs once the North Vietnamese discovered that he was the son of an American admiral. From that time on, he was like captured royalty to be used in negotiations, and they treated him more like a guest of honor or a diplomat that they were holding hostage than a POW. They gave him special quarters, a nurse to look after his wounds when he ejected, and was not held in the camps that the other POWS were kept in.

This child has reportedly been brought to America some years ago, and she is now attending the University of Colorado. The McCain camp is dodging it by claiming he and his wife adopted a child from Mother Teresa's orphanage in 1993, when that adopted child is not the one in question.

If you learned McCain really was the father of this child, would your opinion of his change? Or is it forgivable, like America's reaction upon learning about Strom Thurmond's daughter who he conceived with his family's housekeeper?

McCain was the 'maverick' in the 2000 election. He wasn't the choice of the party leaders, so when he won the New Hampshire primary they -slimed- him. The 'love child' rumor comes from that time, also the rumors that his torture in Vietnam rendered him mentally unstable and that his wife was a drug addict. Later Republicans running against him accused him of collaborating with the Viet Cong, giving them information about American forces.

The Republicans have developed negative campaigning, 'the politics of personal destruction' into a fine art. It makes me think they don't think they'd have a chance of winning if they just told the truth and stuck to the issues, so instead they use smears and slime. EVERY Democratic candidate since at least the 70s has faced some kind of nasty slime campaign like this.

McCain was tortured so badly as a prisoner of war that he is now unable to raise his arms high enough to comb his own hair. But he's the only one of the Republican leaders today who actually -went- to war! All the others loudly supported the war in Vietnam but believed it was work for the sons of the poor, not for them.

I have my own good reasons not to vote for McCain, but GOP slime tactics shouldn't, and don't, affect my view of him.
