Dating a cardiac nurse - what should I know???

I just went out with an amazing girl who is a cardiac nurse. I have no experience in the med field - what are the key things/terms I should know about cardiac nursing? Thanks!

I've been asking her for details, but I want to cover some of the basics & terminology on my own so that I can better appreciate our conversations. What are the key topics to understand?

Dont pretend to know something you dont. Ask her to tell you about her job, learn from her.

Let her teach you this stuff. It will show your interested in her career and not a shallow person.

you discuss her work on your dates?

why dont you find a book to inform you on the topic...or use the internet and search for the basics

good luck

If you are dating her, you don't need to know anything. She's not going to make you take a test before she gets serious, is she?!?!

If you two are dating, she's probably seeing you off hours, AWAY from the hospital. She eats, breathes, and thinks Cardiac Care most of the day. Your date is one of the few times she can "switch off" -- let her enjoy it.

Hopefully things will keep going good with you two, and then she'll be more than happy to tell you about her job. LISTEN and ask good questions. And there will be times when everything went wrong for her. During those times, just let her be a young woman, not a nurse.

Cardiac Output=heart rate times stroke volume

CABG=(pronounced cabbage)Coronary artery bypass grafting

Swan-Ganz catheter= a catheter in the pulmonary artery that measures how well the heart is functioning

Vent- a ventilator that breathes for the patient

Monitor- bedside monitoe that records heart rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure

EKG- electrical recording of hearts electrical activity

MI=heart attack

She will be smart, quick on her feet, and may have screwed up sleeping habits!
