I need some care-and-keeping tips for my new diamond ring?

I just got a yellow gold ring with nine small diamonds in the center. What's the best way to take care of it if I plan on wearing it everyday? Should I take it off for certain activities? Am I allowed to wash my hands with it on?

Thanks to all who answer!

My sister's husband is a jeweler and he gave me these suggestions for my ring when I got married:
Treat your ring like the most precious thing you own.
Take off your ring for cleaning activities, or wear rubber gloves.
Have your ring checked every 6 months or so to make sure the prongs are still good, you don't want to lose a diamond!
Use a high quality cleaning solution to clean your ring every week.

I treat my ring as fragile, even if might not be. I don't want to lose the stone! I don't wear mine when I do any cleaning (that includes the dishes) and I always take it off when I shower. I wear it when I wash my hands, that's not going to hurt it unless you are scrubbing them. I have a special ring holder in my bathroom that my ring goes on when I shower or wash my face, or if I take it off for any other reason. You should also take off your ring when you put on lotion as it will help prevent buildup on the ring. Hope this helps!

Prevention from build up would be to take it off when washing hands etc. While the more you take it off you have a higher chance of accidently forgetting to put it back on.
I would use gentle cleaners like white vinegar to get build up off & soft bristle brush. They have steam baths too for jewelry.Soft cloth to dry or shine.Hope that helps.
