Dependent Care Spending Account funding options? Putting larger deductions into my account earlier in the year

If I am an employee that elected for a $5000 dependent care spending account and I plan on leaving the company prior to the end of the year, say September 1st, can I have extra money come out of my paycheck to reach that yearly target before I leave the company? for example, I would have $192.31 plus the remainder of the year's deductions ($1666.66)come out in my last paycheck, giving me access to the money that I would have accrued had I stayed with the company. I suspect no, but I am wondering why this is not allowed? Thanks for any help!

Yes, you can do that. However, only the expense incurred during your stay at that company can be reimbursed. Unless you are sure you would have enough dependent care expense (>=$5000) before Sep. 1st otherwise your unused money will go to Uncle Sam.

Dependent care flexible spending account cannot be continued via COBRA. Only a medical flexible spending account can be continued via COBRA.

Also, your employer is not required to allow you to take the remainder of your annual election out of your final paycheck. Your employer is allowed to say no. Report It

I am not familiar with Cobra. But I doubt you can continue DCSA with Cobra. I changed job three times in the past two years and none of my previous employers told me that option. Sorry I can't answer this question. Report It
