Need Dental Work-Should I use current credit card or apply for Care Credit card?

I need to get some crowns and I know that it won't be cheap. I have enough space on one of my credit cards to put them on, however the interest rate is not that great. I know that "care credit" offers payment plans that would save me money in the long run, but I intend to apply for a mortgage next year. SO: Would the balance of a new credit line effect my credit approval chances more than just adding the balance to an existing account?

My wife and I have care credit and we love it. No interest, and if you have a month when you can't pay the amount that is needed to pay it off in the 12 months needed, just pay the minimum, but double up the next month. Just make sure that the whole amount is paid off before the year is up. I used bill pay and set up a schedule, as their system only allows either a minimum or the full amount.

The credit line from care credit will actually make you look better on paper because it has to do with your teeth and not your wants. It's a medical necessity, not a luxury. That you can explain. Better to see ongoing payments on Care Credit than on American Express.

I agree with Steve, Care Credit is a pretty good deal with their no interest promo's rather than paying a high interest rate on another card.

If you are not planning on applying for a mortgage within the next 6 months then the new account and inquiry shouldn't hurt your mortgage rates.
If you place the amount on your existing credit card and it bumps your utilization on that card over 20-30%, that could hurt your scores also.

If you keep the Care Credit account in good standing, pay on a timely basis and pay more than the minimum, the account may actually help you when you apply for a mortgage by showing a positive payment history.
