Planning for a terrorist attack?

Am I being paranoid or turning into one of the people I used to make fun of because I am putting together a plan to take care of my family if/when we get hit again? I went to ready.gov and they have a ton of good info on what to do and plan for natural disasters and terrorist attacks. I dont want to scare my wife and my kids are too young to get it ( 3 &4) but I feel it is necessary based on the way the world is going these days. Anyone else put together any kind of plan and if so, what did you do?

By the way, I live in the Boston area, so we have a higher chance of getting hit than most. I love the conspiracy theory people who refuse to see what we are fighting. You fools will be one of the first beheaded!

YOU ARE ONE VERY INTELLIGENT MAN.

YOUR WIFE AND CHILDREN WILL BE PROTECTED BECAUSE YOU ARE ON THE BALL.

IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY.

SOME PEOPLE DON'T GET IT. THEY THINK THEY CAN UN RING A BELL.

THIS TERRORIST THING STARTED A LONG TIME BEFORE GEO BUSH..

ASK BILL CLINTON

THE ALARM HAS GONE OUT THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE ATTACKED..THE TRUMPET IS BLOWING ...THE TERRORISTS ARE WARNING US OVER THE MEDIA.

ITS AS IF THE PEOPLE ASLEEP..OR THEY DON'T CARE.

THE TERRORISTS ARE IN OUT MIDIST AS WE SPEAK..

THANK YOU Report It

You are stupid but it never hurts to be prepared.

I have duct tape for my windows.

Drop a nuke on middle east!

Nope. Never really thought about it. After reading this I may look into it.

Thanks

I'm planning on not planning

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

thats funny, real good stuff. Sorry to tell you pal, you should be more scared of what the gov will do after the terror attacks, can you say martial law?

I think it's smart to have a plan for any disaster, and as long as one person is prepared, I think you'll be able to move smoothly.

Every family should have emergency planning, for pandemics like the bird flu (not to scare you any more), terrorists, fires, etc.

Our family always assumed we'd be okay, and it cost us. It's hard to think during times of crisis, so it's best to be prepared!

The best thing is to always expect the unknowing.
Always be prepared.
Have water Jugs of water, bleach, and can goods.
Little by little I am buying more perishables.
Other then that, that is all I have.

Anyone can make plans for any event, does not mean that they will work. Try not to take these things too much to heart, try planning something nice for you all to share as a family together. I remember being realy worried in the 70s when I was carrying my first child, she and I are still here.

Well, I haven't done anything. But it certainly isn't anything but smart to do the basics. Buy a gun and ammo - learn how to properly handle it. Put a lot of bottled water in your basement, along with lots of canned food and other supplies. Determine how much you need to last 3 months when rationed properly. Buy a generator. If you live in a city, have enough plastic to cover the windows and doors (don't let people scoff at that - the Israelis have plastic and tape in the event of a chemical event).

In my opinion, the preparation should be for a short term (no more than 3 month) period of time without fuel, power or transportation, and limited communications. Anything longer than 3 months and in my view society will break down, and the U.S. will erupt into a conflagration of local fighting over resources, and local fiefdoms will arise as people band together for protection.

Who do you think wrote that stuff -- they are trying to make you paranoid, and it is working. This administration has survived on creating fear in us for the past 6 years. THe PNAC (run by Bush Sr.), said we needed a "Pearl Harbor" style attack to create fear and support for "W" -- and suddenly we have one. It is easy to create the fear of further attacks when you are involved in planning them, or have the intelligence that says it is going to happen.

Also, consider the odds of the place you live getting hit or of being affected by an attack. Even if you live in NY or DC, the odds are so tiny that YOU will be impacted. A nuclear strike would still need to be within a couple of miles to affect you.

You can't live your life in fear of something that will probably never happen. And if it does hit you, you'll be dead, so the preparation isn't necessary.

You are smart to be prepared. Not only for a terrorist attack, but a natural disaster as well.

If more people were like you, and took on some PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and did not rely on the Government to be mommy and daddy after a disaster, we would not have a mess like the Katrina aftermath. Every person should be able to provide for themselves, at least in the short term.

I have water, hurricane supplies, canned food, firearms, and even seeds and stuff, so if something happens and things get really bad, I could even grow my own food.

After the sh!t hits the fan, I'm going to sleep a lot and drink plenty of water.

I also have a plan to wave at people being herded up and sent to those FEMA concentration camps.

I just LOVE George Bush and unlimited centralized government. No FEMA camps for me.

It should be pretty quiet, after the big nuke-party that Michael Shirtoff says is coming. We can all catch up on our rest and socializing. No work on Monday morning. Finally!!!

Well I guess it can never hurt to be prepared. Just don't let it become an obsession that makes YOU seem like the crazy terrorist in the eyes of those you wish to protect.

You must understand that the rhetoric that comes out of the mouths of Washington politicians is political in nature and likely is put out there to elicit the exact reaction you are experiencing.
When one politician recently said there may be an attack again soon, it was based on
his git feeling." GUT FEELING??? is that a logical basis for anything this important? And it came (the "warning") at a time when Bush was feeling the heat again for the war in Iraq. If you take a look at all of the supposed "warnings" over the past few years, such warnings happen whenever Bush is in political trouble. Take a look at the recent assessment of the war on terror, and after billions and billions of dollars and thousands and thousands of Americans dead and crippled, we are no better off than we were on 9/11. Ouch! With all of this Homeland Security nonsense, we have accomplished very little. So how can we trust these guys when they tell us anything? They have been bending the truth so often and for so long, you can't tell what is real ...unless you check out what is being said in Europe and other places. They aren't saying the USA is poised for a terrorist attack, but Europe probably is. I am making absolutely no plans. Look around your town. If you were a terrorist, wouldn't it be easy to cause maximum terror? I know where I live it would be quite simple, yet I do not and have not seen anyone doing anything to secure various sites or easy targets. In New York City, they really do take this more seriously and you can see the positive security efforts.
Please calm down and stop watching the news so much. I realize that it is quite natural to worry when you have young children. But realistically, you are probably quite safe.

A side note: I have a friend whose wife and her family are into "The End Times." They have probably stock piled easily $25K worth of supplies. They have for years: food, money, generators, you name it. They even supposedly "know" when the End Times is coming...and then the deadline passes, and new deadlines are set and they pass....this has gone on for a long long time, and there those resources sit, some expiring, but they replace it. Shocking. She lives her life around this stuff. She questions why bother to get married, and then why bother to have kids, and then why bother to build a house? Well, He puts up with her and her family, and they are married, have kids (now in school), have the house, etc... If she hadn't given in, she would be sitting in her parents' basement alone...waiting. She is living life! I hope what I have written has eased your mind. Believe me, I was glued to the news for years, trying to figure things out. You just have to let it go and get on with life. (I even canceled a trip to Italy because of what those bozos in Washington were saying about terrorist. It is the biggest regret I have. So when I came to my senses about things, I took a trip to Maui.)

Being prepared is never a bad idea. It's not paranoia to have flood, earthquake, or hurricane insurance. It's just acknowledging the realities of the world. Unfortunately, terrorism is a reality of today's world. I think you are fully justified, especially as a husband and father.
