Who took care of your hamster when you were away?

i really want a hamster... my mom would say yes but the problem is we usually go on vacation every year and she doesnt want to pay anybody to take care of it. im planning on getting a job at a resturant to help pay for the cost. but if that doesnt work, have any of you left your hammy at a shelter? did they take good care of it? how was the price?

we usually go for a month

The biggest question is...how long will you be away? I would safely leave a hamster alone for a week at most. Leaving extra food and hanging an extra water bottle on the side of the cage. Put down twice the cedar chips you normally use, that will absorb any extra urine. Don't leave any fresh fruit or veggies, that might attract bugs if the hamster chooses not to eat it. If you are gone longer than a week ask a friend to keep your hamster for you. Buy them a gift or give them some money if you wish. I don't think you would need to drop them off at a shelter unless you will be gone a very long time. How about bringing him along? You could get a small travel cage.

Well first of all, how long are you usually gone for? Because if its just for a week then you could get a large water bottle and a container of food, that should last the hamster for a while. If your gone for a longer time period, you could give it to the shelter..thats what i did and they took very good care of him!! The price varies for the amount of time its in their care for.....

Hope this helps....good luck!!!!

i just got my hamster a few days ago but my friend brooke always left hers with my friend annie, and i left annie my fish when i went away. just find a good friend with a lot of space.

I think that sucks and I think they aren't your true friends. The one person that you mentioned that isn't leaving early is your true friend.
