If the Dems have these grand plans for national health care why don't they try to pass them now?

If their plans are so good, why haven't they tried to pass them already?

Between now and January 21st (if a dem wins) millions in our country will die because they have no or crappy insurance. But instead of trying to pass it now while the majority of the congress are democrats they're using it as a bargaining chip for votes not caring about the people that die or are injured until then, just their votes into power. They're basically saying "if you don't vote for me, I'm gonna let you all die like the rest."

At least if they get it passed or the very least try to, there's actually something on their record of which they both have nothing worth noting.

I in no way support Nationalized Healthcare. People should fend for themselves, and maybe consider their life choices before asking for our tax money to fix problems they could've avoided. If people ate healthier and got off their couches once in a while we would have a lot less sick people.

That being said, it is useless to try to push a Healthcare bill through when Bush is President. He would use his veto so quick it would be scary. Dems don't have THAT big of a majority to get the amount they need to override a veto.

If they did that, they would be working on something that is completely unproductive, wasting our tax money even more on research and other expenses involved in writing and passing a bill.

Back in the 90's the Republicans had control of the Legislature so the health care bill didn't even have a chance to leave the House so the health care bill never made it to the President's desk.

It boils down to the fact that Republicans blocked and will block any effort for national health care.

There is a really stupid person in the White House who will veto any good legislation.

The dems have not been able to pass many things because the repubs have fillibustered all the time. They have set a record for this. Look it up.

That is a wonderful point. Maybe they are saying that Bush and company wouldn't give it the time of day? We have real problems. I know that I'm getting really frustrated with the lies and all the problems that our government has either created or allowed happen or whatever. I know I'm in good company.

Why? So Bush can veto it and the Republican obstructionists make an override impossible? This health care issue is going to be a huge fight in Congress. We won't see daylight on it for a long time after the Democrats win. But at least there will be a Democratic President to guide and approve it.

EDIT: In the 90's Hillary's plan was flawed and so was her method of trying to get it passed. The Republicans had their own version of UHC back then - which funnily enough she used to build her current version of it. Bottom line? She learned the hard way from her mistakes and came up with a knock out punch of a health care plan for us all.

That grandiose plan needs money, taxes, taxes, taxes. We only got dumb bureaucrats standing by to screw the nation.

When Bill was president, Hillary tried and it was shot down real fast. That kind of tells you nothing will get changed if she becomes president.

It would be pointless to try to pass it now as Pres. Bush would veto it, and they don't have enough votes in Congress to override the veto.

How would you like it if I sent YOU my medical bills and forced you to pay them? That's how socialized healthcare works. There is no such thing as free healthcare.

After President Obama is sworn in it will be passed easily.

Because they know it doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing - and, despite their promises, Hillary and Obama know this, too, just like they knew in the last congressional elections that they didn't stand a chance of passing their cut and run promised proposals.

That's a good question. Some say the president would veto it, but that's just stupid. How do you know until you try? Also, Bill and Hillary promised health care in '92 and again in '96. What was the excuse then? They are making campaign promises they have no intention to actually fulfill. Voter's Beware!

How they get it passed with a Republican as president. They would spend so much time and energy trying to pass something that would be vetoed anyway. There's not possibility of overriding it either since two-thirds of the Senate would not pass it. It is unrealistic to think that they would do it now, when they know it wouldn't work.

Because the GOP would cry foul and their supporters would instantly label it as 'socialist' medicine.

I'm sorry - you're wondering why politicians aren't trying to undermine the pharmaceutical and insurance companies? Think hard - here's a hint - their lobbies are some of the strongest on Capitol Hill. And remember, Congress has their own healthcare system and they get it for the rest of their life. Do you honestly think they have a clue about what it's like outside their marble walls?

Because their socialist healthcare plans will be easier to carry out if they can wait and get a socialist president to help them out.
