Can day care close for a holiday that's not planned for in advance? |
Mine closed for New Year's Eve, without anything stated until the Friday evening before. It was stated in the handbook and other information they would be closed on New Year's Day. Why should I have to pay for that particular day, especially with so little notice? I spoke with the director, who seems to dislike me anyway (and i can get along with everybody I am a very non confrontational person really) and she never let me finish what i had to say and tells me not to stress and walked away from me. I am certainly looking for other care, in the meantime what can i do? Has anyone else been in a situation like this, any ideas how to deal other than "stay home" or "find a new one"? I wish i could and I am planning on it but its been difficult. Thank you everyone! Thanks! If it was in their handbook and in other information then it sounds like you should have known about it ahead of time. There isn't really anything you can do about it since they gave you an adequate heads up. write a letter to the director's boss and let them know about the attitude you got during that convo. let them know they can remunerate you for the inconvenience by giving you a day or a week of free day care So they gave you a few days notice (New Years Eve was on Monday). I would have assumed that they would close as most places due and would have asked them a few weeks before this is they are open that day. I pay for my day care as per there policy which is that they charge a montly fee no matter the number of days open. They close for 2 days in Feb for staff to attend a training conference, they follow the school systems Easter and Christmas break schedule which comes out to about 3 weeks closed and then all major holidays. To me a good day care that my son loves, has attatchments to, enjoys attending, and made freinds at is far more valuable than the hassle of the school closings. Keep in mind a day care center still has fixed costs to meet each month like the mortgage or rent, electric bills, etc. And some still pay teachers for holidays-I suspect a good many parent's using those centers expect to be paid for work holidays too. I would just smooth it over with them and deal if you have no other issues with the center (ie quality of care). Well, I know our daycare does the same thing. Its usually a child vs staff issue. But we pay by the day, so we don't have to pay when its closed. Usually they have a sign up sheet and if not enough children will be there then they close, and give the parents a 2-3 day warning. I don't think there is anything you can do, just find another daycare and hope for the best. Good luck! |
