If I broke the screen on my iPod touch, would the apple care protection plan cover the iPod and send a new one

IF you broke it-- no but if the touch screen stopped working then definitely yes, that's the whole point of the protection plan because the touch technology is soemthing new that they aren't even completely sure of how long it will last! So depending on how you broke it (water, dropped, physical distortion), then no sorry

If the damage is your fault it is not covered under the warranty. So if you break the screen it's going to be obvious that that isn't a hardware issue.. it won't be covered.

Why do you want a new one? What IS actually wrong with yours?

Usually, a broken screen means you're screwed. Even if there was other damage, many warranties would be voided by the evidence of psychical abuse.
