If I work hard but can't pay for health care plan, why is it again that I should say no to a universal plan?

Good question. The thing we need to figure out is this......

Will a government run system cost the average person a lot more than premiums given to insurance companies?

One way or another, most people pay something, whether in taxes or premiums. I think the only group which would pay more if it was government run would be the very wealthy. And the rich and the insurance industry are the ones behind the hype to not do it.

The rest of us would probably pay less. Especially people who have had a cancer or some pre-existing condition.

In Wisconsin, we are looking at a government run system that would tax people based on adjusted gross income (like social security tax). It would be 10% of that figure. In which case I would have much better coverage for less than I pay to a private insurance company.

because then you would be just as well as the rich and the rich don't like having anything in common with the common people.

because nobody else owes you a damned thing. you employer owes you a job for a wage. not health care and full benefits. find another job then.

Because rich people will have to pay more in taxes. Rich people don't like to part with their money, so they will pass laws to make you pay more. Have you watched Lil' Bush on Comedy Central? The Lil' Cheney character is priceless.

I work hard too and am having trouble getting by. Why do you think I should be forced by the government to pay for your health care? Don't you know that workers taxes will be raised to pay for it and because the government will hire lots of accountants to run the program that health care will be more expensive then than it is now?

I can't pay for my plan, so somebody else should pay for my plan?

Supposedly people think that if you have a Universal plan that the quality of the care you get will not be up to par. You won't have the choices in medical care that you have now, and everyone will be equal....at least in the doctors eyes.

because the republicans say it would be worst thing to happen, when all it actually does is protect the interest groups and the insurance and pharaceutical companies so they can profit more and more money.

Simple , you will be working just as hard but get taxed twice as much just so that you can have some health benifits that when you are young probably will never use.

And to the poster that says because then you will be the same as someone who is rich and they don't want that. You really think "the Rich" will use crappy Government health care? They will have their own doctors

Say no because it puts more money in the hands of our government to spend like a whore who just won the lottery. Universal health can work, but the plan has to be solid and benificial to the people. In the countries that have universal health, the wait for service might take months as opposed to minutes, and the quality of treatment is lacking compared to our current system. Another con is that in the universal health countries, the monies collected from laborers is astronomical...over 60 or more percent of their take home pay. I for one don't want to give the keys to my vault over to some government politico that I don't know to spend as he/she see;s fit.

Because I shouldn't have to pay for your health coverage.....

Now all that insurance industry revenue, will go straight to the doctors' and hospitals instead..... ARE YOU CRAZY !!!!??

Because then the doctors and hospitals will have to put on wage and price controls.
They will have to stop robbing their patients blind.
The drug companies will have to stop selling us medicine for a $100 a bottle were they are selling the same medicine to the rest of the world for $10 to $30 a bottle.
The insurance companies will not be able to charge ridiculous premiums for insurance.

If you can not pay for your heath plan at work just how are you going to cover the taxes that would come with a universal plan?

It is you and I that will be paying the new taxes not the rich.

Why?

The rich get paid in a way that keeps them from paying that much in taxes. So you will be the one paying.

Because the idiots who oppose it think it's going to be free, instead of just affordable.

Look if you can't pay for health care that means that somebody else have to pay for it. And do you know how is going to be paid, well by raising taxes. And when they raise taxes the government will have to figure out how much is the cost of the health care in order to raise the taxes. There are studies that say that the taxes that everybody will pay are too high. Also the quality of the health care will be reduce because there will be no competition between the medical systems. So even though it look good from one side we have to look at it from all angles in order to determent if is good or not. Also look at other countries and see if it work and see the quality of the medical system and the taxes that are costing it's citizens. And right now with the millions of illegals in our country I think that the American citizens will also have to pay for them in taxes in addition to the other things that we are paying, like education, etc. So let do more studies and see if it good for our American system.
