you first need to define your surgery. Different care plans are dictated for different surgeries. Open Abdominal surgeries will result in a wide array of potential electrolyte imbalances and should be monitored closely.

Outpatient surgeries would not require any monitoring as long as the patient is able to drink and void.

these are two extremes of the operative spectrum. You select what type of surgical procedure and adjust accordingly.
