Tell me about your health care plan. Can you develope a universal healthcare plan similar to Canada?

There is no Canadian health care plan. Each province/territory administers its own plan. Some provinces require you pay nominal fees, and each province's plans covers different things. Universal health care only means everyone is covered, and coverage varies. For example my plan does not cover eye exams unless you are under 18 or over 65 or the eye exam is for eye disease. My opthamologist encourages inventing eye diseases so you don't have to shell out 50 bucks.

To have a universal healthcare system, you have to pay for it, and Canadians pay with higher taxation. Did you ever compare the price of gasoline between the US and Canada? Right now some provinces are investigating whether or not to allow some level of medicine for profit, which contravenes the Canada Health Act.

And that probably sums up the biggest difficulty in universal health care. The biggest hurdle is to consider if health care is a right or a privilege. If it is a right, then for profit health care does not fit. If it is a privilege, then for profit health care works. Developing a universal plan in the US would likely require a major shift in attitude, and universality means everybody.

Currently I am on Medicare with Texan Plus as my HMO. I pray for the day we will have universal health care in the country.

Wow! That would be nice. Currently I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. It is a "traditional" plan with a $5000 deductible and it covers me and my 19 year old stepson. For this, we pay more than $2000/month (30% co-pay)! My husband is on Medicare, and for him we pay in more than $550/month (20% co-pay). So you can see, we pay more than $30K a year for medical insurance, which doesn't even provide a Rx drug plan for my husband (he's very healthy).
Now, perhaps you can tell me how we can have universal medical care coverage. I think we should dump this dangerous war in Iraq and the president and vice president who created it. Then maybe we could actually consider spending money on something that benefits people, instead of lining the pockets of corrupt and already fabulously wealthy politicians.
