How this for great NHS follow up? |
My mum (who is 75 and has just got over chemo last year) fractured her hip last week and had a hip replacement, she was discharged yesterday. I work for the NHS and i think that is DISGRACEFUL! More cost cutting exercises i think! I think you should complain to your mum's GP. That sounds really wrong. I would certainly follow it up if I were you. How can a lady of that age and post-op inject herself. Very bad! Report It i don't know the protocol but yes that sounds harsh!!! especially at 75, what if she forgets or has a fall god forbid. i couldn't inject myself now at 24!!! It is a choice that was given to me also, when I needed the same type of blood treatment. I accepted the offer, and found it very simple to do. Seeing that your mother is elderly, It seems that the nurse may have been a bit hasty in suggesting this. I know your Mum must be worried, so tell the nurse that you would prefer her to do it, as it will reassure you and your Mum. Good luck, Steve Does you mom have a social worker? If not, ring the local social sevices to be put in touch with the central team. A good social worker will arrange a suitable care package and complain on your behalf. If nothing is sorted, complain to the NHS using the official complaints procedure. Its not disgraceful. Many people can quite easily cope on their own, and the district nurse still would have checked in on her. You have to realise that district nurses are stretched to breaking point, getting more and more patients in an ever increasing area. So if a patient can manage on their own, which many can and find much more comfortable and less embarassing, then it will be beneficial to both the Nurse and the patient for them to do so which will free up the Nurse for someone else. I bet when she was asked to come out and do it the nurse smiled and said not a problem? Surely it is better to have the choice than not? It makes absolute sense for your mum to do her own injections if she is capable. Why waste a nurse who could be seeing to someone else. |
