The elderly ladie i am caring for is always constipated what can she do diffrently to help her move her bowels i am assuming that she has tried prunes and other fruits, maybe a stool softener, less cheese in her diet. perhaps a purgative, like Epsom salts to get things going and then a fiber supplement daily- purgatives are hard on the system and should not be taken alot- check with the pharmacist for over the counter items There is a tea called Smooth Move you can get at GNC or at the grocery store. It has a licorice taste. Have her drink a cup either each morning or each evening. It will work. What is she eating? Does she drink enough water? Does she get any exercise? If she just sits all day, that could stop her up. Even walking up and down the block once a day will help. Grape juice will help get things moving also. Find out what she eats every day and see about changing her diet. Take her for short walks. As all the doctors say, drink more water and eat more fiber rich foods especially the green varieties. If the over the counter medications aren't working she could call her doctor and request suppositories, or get a Fleet's enema for immediate relief. Cook up prunes and apricots and feed them to her daily, she'll go. Of course, don't feed her the whole amount. 2/prunes, 2 apricots. No teeth, puree them Try taking her out dancing for an evening. |
