Care workers do you think they deserve better treatment.?

These people are responsible for the providing inhouse care for the sick and elderly. You can imagine the tasks they have to perform, for instance a bedridden person waiting for their Carer in the morning, the previous visit 5pm the day before. DHSS,off the top of their head apply a time factor and reguardless of client distress and condition thats all the time the carer gets.If a client falls or needs an ambulence, the carer in theory should walk away when the time limit is reached but of course they dont so its their loss.Companies expect them to use their mobile phones on their behalf without recompense.Send them to clients who have been taken into hospitle and failed to tell the operative, no compensation.Supply them with just one overgarment.Companies abuse the good offices of these of people all for the princely sum of 拢6-00 per hour less deductions.

Better treatment, better provision of any necessary equipment and a lot more money - AND a lot more appreciation! Anybody found guilty of abusing them either verbally or physically should be pistol whipped. Oh Christ, that'll put the cat amongst the pigeons!

yes 100%

Care workers need a better deal all round. Not only do they need a pay hike to around 50% more than their present hourly rate but they also need help to get better qualifications and free time to study same.

A lot of care workers are part time - these people also need better qualifications and assistance to obtain same.

I agree. Care workers get a really bad deal and the job they do is grossly underrated by society.

I used to be a private housekeeper/carer for an elderly couple. They had home carers come in the morning to get them up out of bed and down to their breakfast table and I turned up afterwards and look after them. The other carers would then put them to bed later on in the evening.

I did the housework /provided waitress service, company and kept on eye on them. The gentleman was blind and deaf with walking difficulties and took a long time to get up and ready. The lady had Alziemers and often would refuse to be helped (or go into a strop)

The homecarer was given 20mins per client, no transport costs. Their wages were assessed as being 拢12 per hour as they were told they could do 3 elderly people in one hour. This sounds like a lot of money but of course this never happened. No account was taken of the fact that they had to travel to and from each client. Or that their clients often took far longer than 20 mins to help.

Because many women went into the proffession because they like older folk and wish to do something to help, they would often do that little bit extra for their clients and find that their clients needed a lot more than they could give them. As a result the money they were promised to intice them into the proffession was nearly always 'pie in the sky'.

These people do a excellent job and get a very poor reward for their efforts. We need to ensure that standards are tightened both for the clients and the worker as many of us will need this service in the future.
