How does the practice of children taking care of their elderly parents benefit the society? Why so?

Yes. That way society is not burdened with taking care of them.

How does it not benefit society? Children were cared for for years by their parents and I think it's a matter of respect that you in turn care for you parents if they need it. I suppose alot of people may not agree with this, but that's in fact the exact reason why I will chose to care for my own parents until I absolutely can't. I love them and respect them and I feel it will help them keep their dignity. Plus no one can take care of someone you love just the way you can, placing that on someone else would make them feel "burdened". An act of love shouldn't be a burden, that's why I wouldn't feel burdened.

keeps families together/less strain on gvt. services

Children taking care of their elderly parents instills patience and wisdom in them. By taking care of their parents many people can learn more about themselves and life.

Not all parent-child relationships can work this way. It really depends on the situation.

Is society benefited by Parents caring for their young children?

Just because people are old does not make them disposable. Society cannot function effectively when it suffers under the weight of having a segment of the population identified as disposable. All that leads to is an ever widening definition of who is disposable, and a corresponding increase in the level of fear of becoming a member of one of the disposable groups.

Knowledge and skills are missing from a society when a portion of it鈥檚 population is disposed of.

Humans are inherently valuable 鈥?to each other and thus to society as a whole.

I work a lot in Africa, where tradition requires that children take care of their parents. If there is not a good Social Security system in the country, or if there is corruption in the government so the funding that should go to the Social Security system is stolen by officials, then people must plan some other solution for their old age. For most people in Africa, Social Security is their children.

Apart from old people having a loving and secure place to live, this practice has other benefits. Having someone at the house all day long is good for any young children in the family, as the old person has lots of time to spend with them. Children can learn skills and wisdom from their grandparents. Young people sometimes can say things to their grandparent that they are afraid to reveal to their parents, and get good advice. Having an adult at home allows both parents to work, bringing in more income to the family, while not leaving the children without a guiding presence at home. In countries where there is a lot of crime, having someone always at the house helps reduce the chance of a burglary or theft.

It's also important for children to be around old people. In America, we tend to hide our old people away where nobody sees them, in nursing homes and assisted care facilities. Children grow up without realizing they are mortal and life is short, because nobody they love is there, approaching the end of a long life. American kids generally miss out on the experience of having to care for a dependent old person they love, feeding them, reading to them, changing their bedsheets, walking slowly to church supporting them by the arm. This experience is important in the formation of empathy and kindness, and being around elderly grandparents helps.

yes this is beneficial to the socitey
here in india this is a custom
traditionally people dont move out of their homes they live with parents & take care of them ( simple take a job in the same city so that u can stay home )
this is two sided the parents can work while the retired parents can take care of the grandchildren
and food is also not a problem ( imagine working like a dog all day and comming back to a homcooked meal made by mom )

then in new india when people have to move away due to work the parents are always helped financially
i think that this moral value that should be accepted and adopted in the west also

i bet aged parents want nothing more than being cared by family than by even the kindest of strangers. its just the younger set are either too lazy or like to believe their once vibrant and loving parents have changed for the worse not only physically but in attitude. and then leave them cold. its sad. how will one feel if the little children they shared by childhood, in adulthood decides to forget & leave them altogether?

It is the greatest thing a child can do.
The parents took care of them as weak children and now the children can take care of their weak old parents.
It is an honor to do such actions.
This honors God and it honors them.
It would be great if all societies cared for their elderly parents.

relieves the state of financial responsibility
