Why has cost of elderly care risen in the past decades? |
Why has cost of elderly care risen in the past decades? Well The cost of everything has risen. The value of money has just went down from decades ago. Probably a lot to do with there being more middle managment than there was 20 years ago, they demand higher wages. Because people who own residential houses for the elderly are realising what a big money spinner it is and charging ridiculous amounts for the old folk to live out their last years. Because prices generally have risen over the years. Everything has risen, except my wages!!!!!! The government are a greedy load of wotsits. Tax this tax that blah blah blah. They're okay they get paid a good wage. Don't get me started. they are now become business not just a social service, they need to make a profit. They know they will vbe more demand in the future- the baby boomers which now in the 60's will need care in 20-25 years time. It will be just getting more expensive and difficult to get one as well. its not just the cost of elderly risen it just the cost of living in general, everythings cost way more than before....and people out their having to try to live on 5.15 a hour, min. wages shouldve been raised along time ago, but these people in office that votes on this stuff dont give a crap about the little man because they all have everything they want and need and then some. A number of factors. There are fewer privately run homes now than ever before. The homes tend to be part of large groups nowadays and as so have the profit motive more in mind. They have to employ professional managers to run the homes whereas the private homes were under the care of the proprietor and partner. About 10 decades of the increasing saturation of our culture with extremely unhealthy practices, like sugar, tobacco, and alcohol. Because they are living longer. There are more of them. Basic economics. because more people live to old age with fewer or no children to look after them. also because they are kept alive longer after developing diseases like cancer etc which are expensive to treat and subsequently manage/screen for. althought people live longer they do not always live healthier. so more people living longer, requiring expensive care/treatment= greater costs. if you look at it per head it is even more worrying as the population declines overall! To name a few... more managers, fewer homes, people living longer (thankfully!!) but it means more expensive long-term care etc., and probably shortage of people entering the nursing/caring professions. |
