Elderly care home for dogs to open in Japan?

I think it's sad that people don't love their dogs enough to look after them in their old age. Dogs are loyal and loving to their owners all their lives and don't deserve to be thrown away when it's a little more work to look after them. My dogs will be with me until the day they die, whatever care they need.

it seems like an odd thing to do but after reading the article i think it's a great kind thing Japan can do for their older dogs.
i mean i am sure the Japanese must live in apartments very close to each other so if an elderly dog barks all night long and wakes up the neighbors instead of putting the dog down they can live out their lives in peace and fun. it's sad that they will not be able to be there for their dog when nature takes it's course but sometimes life throws u a curve ball but if this is a viable solution OK..
so all in all i think it's an odd idea, like so many things in or coming from japan :) but it solves a problem and let's the dogs live a happy life.

That is fantastic. Japan does seem more advanced in some ways than the US. Hopefully we will take their lead and do something for our elderly dogs.

Surely it will be very confusing for the old dogs who have been in their owners company for the best part of their lives to be moved to a strange environment. Dogs, by their nature, don't want to be separated from their owners. I certainly would not send my dog to a care home: it is until death do us part, either mine or his. Therefore I think it is a totally unfeeling and stupid idea.
