Hi.. what are the societal affects of government elderly care? |
I am writing a paper about institutionalizing the elderly. I believe that people has lost their responsibility in taking care of the family and thus turn it to distant bureaucrats. In this manner, it destroys the family. What do you think? Please detail. I agree. We have changes as a culture, to where we once took care of out elderly, now the family has changed. There are more working women, the primary caregivers. It now takes two incomes to support a family, some families have children to take care of also. Some older people need specialized care, people are living longer than ever before. The diseases that once killed people, not are managed by medication. The new generation, doesn't want to give up their material things earned by working to stay home and take care of their relatives. I have to agree. My grandmother lived with our family until she died. My Dad put in another bathroom for her so she wouldn't need to walk upstairs. The man I'm with now took care of his father, which depleted his savings with nurses & other medical care. It's one thing if you're not physically able to care for someone else. It's another if you just don't want to be bothered. Other cultures value their elders. |
