I have been told a lot of nurses who come from 3rd world are attracted because we don't screen them for HIV?

Is there any truth in this? Does anyone on here know?

I was told this by a London based consultant - he said our wards were filled with overseas workers who had infections so they had to come and work in UK rather than another country where nurses are screened

Don't be so silly, its because they worked hard and got their qualifications. They do a nurses job without expecting a pay rise because they think they are playing doctor!!!!!!!!!

i beg to differ with the cheeseburger person, getting HIV in most cases is a choice , it's caught through unprotected sex even though ppl are told time and time again to use a condom, very few HIV cases are caused by blood transfusions so get your facts right before you start abusing those asking a question.

in answer to the question it would not surprise me if we don't screen medical practitioners but i doubt if that is the main reason they come here but it may be one of them, i can't say but i do think all of us who are in health care should be screened for infectious diseases such as HIV, TB etc, why should sick ppl who go to hospital to be made better get infected with a life threatening disease just because this government can't spend a few quid on a blood test, but then ppl would moan that it is against their human rights. as an employee in the health care industry i would have no objections to being tested but then i have nothing to hide.
