Are people becoming too complacent about HIV? |
Some people say "it's not a terminal illness anymore, it's just a chronic disease like diabetes. You just take a few pills every day". Surely this attitude (taken up even by doctors and nurses) is encouraging complacency. Yes drugs can help but it depends on the individual and you are still likely to face a really painful death. Shouldn't we emphasise to people that HIV is to be avoided at all costs. When I was a teenager, everyone I knew used condoms. it was just the rules, we were all scared shitless about AIDS. Now, 10 years later, I'm counsellor for teenagers, and let me tell you: they are not using protection!! Some of them don't even know how to put a condom on. I am constantly amazed at their lack of concern for themselves and their partners. yes but men are always going to prefer the unsafe way because it feels better. maybe they should come up with a germex douche or something that would clear out any aids if they spread it. You know what's even crazier...... scientists have found compelling evidence that there might be a cure for HIV. It involves using a competitive non-pathogenic strain of HIV that when injected into HIV patients, competes out the pathogenic strain and in time establishes itself in the body. During trials, 9 out of 11 critically ill AIDS patients injected with the competitive non-pathogenic strain returned to a healthy state within a year. I think its still important to protect yourself |
