Do they test your blood for HIV infection before an operation?

I've had several operations within the past five years and I haven't had an HIV test since I started with the surgeries (because I thought they tested for it). They always do pre-operative blood work andI was just curious if they tested for that. Any nurses, doctors, phlebotomists out there know?

In the hospital i worked in yes, we did HIV tests an all the surgical patients because if that person has a badly damamged inmune system he could have complications after surgery.

Yes, they always test for HIV before any surgeries.

i had operations but they dont test ur blood for hiv

no they only test with your permission it is the law

HIV tested has become a part of the regular series of blood test that you recieve when you are admitted into the hospital... such as when you have a baby... they test you and the baby... THEY HAVE PERMISSION WHEN YOU SIGN ALL THOSE DOCUMENTS...

no you have to ask for a hiv test and it is a different test than what they check for before sergury.
