HIV from Getting blood drawn? |
I went for a blood test today. The nurse used a vacutainer needle to draw my blood and not a syringe so the needle was not wrapped it was just capped from both sides. Now, what worried me is that after the test, the nurse recapped the needle from both sides and disposed it in the bin. my worry is, what if the nurse made a mistake and put the needle back in the box with the new needles and used it on me !! Can I get HIV like that? Yes, you could get HIV from a used needle if the person who it was used on before you had HIV. You can tell when a needle is used though, most have to be unwrapped and then uncapped. I dont think this is a very common mistake because nurses know how important it is to dispose of used needles Immediatly after they are used. Hepatitis would be a more likely possibility but you dont have to worry, your chances are very slim. Well if the nurse put it back in and she put a used needle in you then yes you could get. Although it is not very likely. You can get aids or hiv by needles, and fluids mixing, oh and then of course from a person with an open cut that has it. No..nurses are strongly adviced to dispose of used needles anything with blood on them..if she was new then someone would have been in there with her they dont just make that mistake because it will cost thier job and mabey someones life..hiv is contracted through sex ,and blood that hasnt touched the air because it dies as soon as it does...im pretty sure you dont have hiv...but if you still dont believe me you can go get tested for free for personal reasons i dont know about 3rd world countries but in uk you will see the nurse get out a new syringe out of its packet then its put away in a sharps disposal box after so no risk at all |
