Color of tubes for hiv testing? |
I have requested the HIV test in my doc office. The nurse took a bood sample. Next day (not even 24h) they called me and said they that received the call from lab to collect the blood again. As the reson they said that rules changed in the lab and they want the sample be collected in the lavender tube. Please help me, I am so scared. Is that possible first test came out positive and they did not tel me? Please just serious answers. No, I'm sure it's just a technicality. Doctors deal with this all the time, they have no qualms about telling you the truth about your status (positive or negative). The color of the tubes thing sounds EXACTLY like the sort of bureacratic red tape that all agencies have to go through nowadays in order to make their service uniform and efficient. Just go back, give another sample, and try to stay calm until they give you your results. HIV tests can come back as quick as 24 hours, but it is likely that the person who took your blood made a mistake. Some of those tubes have special ingredients in them to preserve samples in a specific way to make it easier for them to find what they are looking for. They color code the tubes and are supposed to use certain ones for certain things. If the person used the wrong one, then it could be the preservative or additive in the tube was something that would alter your true test results and thus give them an inaccurate reading. By having you come in and give them another sample in the correct tube, they have a better chance of getting a true and accurate test result and be able to give you a more accurate finding once the test is done. No, no, no. The nurse just used the wrong tube. Different blood tests have to be collected in different tubes. The colour of the top of the tube indicates it has a specific reagent material in it to aid in testing whatever it is meant for. If you use the wrong tube sometimes the blood can't be tested by the lab. Nurses do not always know which tube to use, that is usually the lab techs job. Not to worry about that. |
