Should hiv infected nurses be allowed to give patient care? |
Should hiv infected nurses be allowed to give patient care? It still amazes me how little people know about getting this virus. Someone mentioned that it would be so easy for the nurse to transmit it and they are around sharp objects all day. Oh, brother. The nurse would have to bleed into an open wound of a patient for there to even be a chance of them getting it. Nurses should be and do wear gloves all the time when dealing with patients---no matter what their HIV status is. If you have a nurse who does not put gloves on when taking care of you---request that they do so. No. Yes. As long as they're not injecting themselves with something and then injecting the patient with medication using the same needle there should be no risk. no they shouldnt as it could take one little thing then the patient is infected No. yes - HIV is only transmitted through bodily fluids like blood & semen (not even saliva transports it)....a patient isn't going to contact anything from a nurse - even if she drools on the patient. Also, most hospitals have a pheboltologist to draw and giv blood so a nurse wouldn't even be doing that. Yes but to a limited degree they shouldnt be able to see patient because that puts the patient at an uneeded risk. Absolutely not. Would you allow a nurse to take care of you if you knew she was infected? How about a dentist? It only takes one moment of contact with a wound or bodily fluid and you're infected! A death sentence! If you say this then the same theory should apply that HIV negative nurses should not take care of HIV positive patients. absoulutely! Now if it was boxing like Tommy Morrison I would say that many lives are in danger. Thier is no combat going on and the cjances of the nurse bleading on a patient is highly unlikely. Hmmmmm.........I wonder if any of the people that answered yes to this question would allow an infected Person to do medical work on them. I know I wouldn't and I am a nurse!!!!! |
