Live HIV vaccine injected in Nurses? |
Hello, I've heard that it's required for nurses to take a live HIV vacccine, to prevent them from getting the disease or battle the disease if they have it I guess. Is that true? Is there a problem with that? Actually the vaccine is still in the trial stages so I am pretty sure that it is not being used in nurses or anyone right now. The HIV vaccine will probably take another 10 years or so before it will be up and ready to be used in the US. If a nurse or any other health care worker comes in contact with HIV whether through a needle stick or anything else they are just automatically given a prophylaxis (Additional measures to reduce the chance of infection also include treating with anti-HIV drugs as soon as possible after an exposure has occurred. This is referred to as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). Research evidence seems to indicate that the use of anti-HIV drugs like zidovudine in combination with other anti-HIV drugs if given soon after the injury can reduce the rate of transmission.) Good Luck hope the info helps if there was an HIV vaccine, wouldn't we give it to everyone? There's no such thing. that doesn't exist. Nurses get Hepatitis B vaccines. |
