Anyone who's dr, nurse, or anyone, need advice. Blackout after donation?

Last week Wed I went to donate plasma for the first time. Everything went fine. I had to be taped up instead of using a band-aid to stop the bleeding but that was it. I went back on Fri to donate again, you have to wait 24hrs at least. Everything was cool through the whole process. I finished and went to wait for my payment, yes they pay you. I decided to tie my shoe so that I could walk around while I waited. When I let go of the gauze they gave me to apply pressure with it started bleeding everywhere. I had to go stand over the trash can and wait a second for someone to bring me new clean gauze and some alcohol wipes to clean me up. While the guy was cleaning up my arm and hand I told him I felt like I needed to sit down. I was feeling dizzy. Next thing I know I was being carried to a bed. I could feel them pick me up and I could see the a little bit of the whites of their jackets, but that's it. I'm not sure if I totally blacked out or not. What's your opinion?

More details to come! Give me a min! They are important!

Just make sure that you're well hydrated before you go donate again. Dehydration be it mild or severe can cause syncope (fainting). This is because if your blood pressure is decreased, which it is since you have less blood volume since plasma was removed, there is less blood traveling to your brain. When this happens, you can faint or almost faint like you described. Alternatively some people freak out about seeing their own blood and can faint from that as well. If you're a very thin person, then that can lead to fainting as well since thin people already have low blood pressures to begin with. You don't sound like your blood sugar was low, which can be another cause.

I've attached an article to teach you more. I hope this helps.

that kind of happened to me too you probably sat up to farst or didnt have enough fluid and energy in ya, just make sure you eat before next time and arent too tired and stressed and drinks lots and get all your fruit and vegetables, dont sit up too quick and have some refreshments after, DONT DRIVE if this happened last time and it should be on your records that it did happen......and i duno where you live but we have to wait 6 months to dontate again.....24 hours was probably why you blacked out, do they test your iron levels? if they dont then they should to make sure you can donate and you arent close to becoming emenic

If you go to China, you could probably also sell your organs.

you are no better than a piece of crab

As a lab tech who worked for the blood bank it was pretty routine to see people having VVR's (vaso-vegal reactions) from both plasma and whole blood donations. Although whole blood donor reactions were more frequent due to loss of volume thus a sudden drop in blood pressure, plasma donors too had incidents. Your case seems more like a reaction to the "leak that sprung" on your arm. Also pretty common. Please continue to be a good Samaritan though. Donating blood is a cool thing. Always let them know ALL medications (prescription or OTC) that your taking. This is very important for the recipient. BE BLESSED!
