Are samples of Rx/Controled substances monitored or tracked? |
I have a situation where I know of a Nurse in washington that gives out samples of prescription drugs to a family member that I know of and perhaps others such as Levitra, Viagra, Cialis, Imitrex, ect (Prevacid also. Not sure if that is a controled substance). Are the samples monitored/tracked in anyway as to where they are distributed? What doctors offices received certain lots of the samples? This could aid in providing proof of the distribution of Rx's from a doctors office and this is all done without anyone having ever been seen in the doctors office. When I say controled, Im refereing to requireing a prescription as opposed to being over the counter type medicines So she gives it out to one person she loves... why ya gotta be a tattle tale. It aint like she is selling it on the street and I am sure they have a surplus of it. Appreciate Christie Ks answer. For Eve's answer, its illegal and people taking prescription meds without having seen a doctor and/or having it prescribed to them can kill. Not grade school tattling. You have no idea the whole story. Report It Controlled substances are indeed monitored and are not given out as samples. Unfortunately, the drugs you list are not considered controlled. (Drugs are generally considered controlled based on their addictive potential. A typical example is a narcotic.) Doctors are all the time receiving sample medication from drug companies. Most of the doctors I know give these samples to people who cannot afford to buy what they need. Most nurses are not allowed to diagnose illnesses or prescribe medication, however, if the nurse is an advanced practice nurse, an ARNP, they indeed are. So, the question is, what kind of license does this nurse hold? All states have Boards of Nursing which monitors licenses of all practitioners. I would suggest that you contact them to find out if her activities are legal or not. They would also be the ones to register your complaint with. Boards of Nursing hold their nurses to very high standards and have very strict rules for what nurses can and can't do in their states. Any nurse who is prescribing/distributing medicine without either the legal ability to do so or without an order from a physician is essentially practicing medicine without a license.
