Again! Are athletes paid too much?

Athletes get paid WAY TOO much for what they do. I actually DO something to better mankind. The company I work for installs Fire Alarm systems, Halo systems (prevents kidnappings from maternity wards in hospitals), Security Systems, Nurse Call systems and more. I do so much more productively than they do and I don't get paid as well.

I DO something that protects and saves lives, protects property and aids in the wellness of ALL.

What I do has everlasting effects. What does a stupid game do. 'Oh, my team is better than your team.'

Give me a break.

i think that sports is an awesome chance to make a difference in somebodys life-lets take this for consideration- my bro might be in the 2008 olympics-people look up to him-that gives him a chance to tell them how to have a wonderful life with God,so,people in sports get looked up to Report It

I totally disagree with you. You think the players make alot, look at the teams they hplay for and see how much those guys make, it is all p;roportional.

I agree. There are so many important jobs that pay so little. For the moment I can only think of social workers, but there are so many more. Atheletes play a game, get involved with scandals, get out of scandals that a normal person would get jailtime, and put on airs. Movie stars, too, are way overpaid.

You could put actors and celebrities in the same boat as the athletes. Value in a capitalist systems isn't determined by the contribution you make to society its determined by how much revenue you can produce.

Look at it this way, its the everyday shmucks buying the tickets and watching the commercials that pay for all that. Its your fault.

i'm feelin' ya, pally... totally agree. try paying them $20/hour and professional sports would be w/o most of the players that it has today. it'd be far more interesting if they had to play to win their paychecks...

It's that basic theory. Supply and demand. Think about it. Who is making the money? It's the American way and we can't change that. If your reasoning was true then most mothers would be paid a million before even you.

yes and no....like some people shouldnt play sports....who is that guy that sits on the bench....a bench warmer and he gets how much a year....wtf i had a friend win 250,000 on lotto and let me tell you for what they make on the bench and what he won doesnt compare to what they make....only 1's that should make that kinda money is MJ...Joe Montana back in the day, wayne g...for the kings and oh yeah BRETT FAVRE...next to one of the greatest QB's in the history of the NFL

I agree with you 100%. I finally heard of someone who shares my beliefs on overpaid sports.... Have you ever watched a sports fanatic? It's always (we did this, or we did that), it's sickening..If they ever met the person that they idiolized so much, that person wouldn't even give them the time of day.

Yes they are paid to much. Years ago during a baseball strike, I was told by a guy that was a relief pitcher that the 850k a year he was making wasn't enough because he might get hurt. Now here was a guy that if he stayed in his own country, the Dominican Republic, wouldn't make 850k if he lived three life times. I remember thinking "850k a year and you're pissing and moaning because you might get hurt. Go get shot at and have mortar and artillery rounds landing near you for $1200 a month and then come back and tell me just how bad you have it."
