International Aid, isn't it time we just stopped giving away billions of taxpayers money every year?

I'm talking here about the billions we routinely give to many middle eastern countrys every year, the millions to Europe, etc.
I know that some people will say that some country's need help and financing to get back on their feet/deal with their problems, etc. But we have been giving out aid for years to many countries, first of all I don't believe that much of the aid actually goes to where it is needed, secondly why should it be our responsibility to do it? It is time many of these countrys start to deal with their own problems, and Europe doesn't deserve a damn penny anyway.
It is time we take these billions of pounds we give away each year and put it back into our own country. Cut taxes massively for a start, because theres obviously too much pouring into the coffers, put some into the economy, invest in renewable energy sources such as a massive wind/hydro electric farm in the irish channel or north sea, etc. And just imagine how many soldiers/police/doctors/nurses/firefight...

and teachers that money could hire every year.

I'm sure you could all think of areas that money could be better spent in this country, but I just think its time we started looking after ourselves now. I'm sick of paying for everyone else.

Well said mike, I think most people would agree with you except of course the do gooders, charity begins at home and it's time our taxes were spent helping people in this country. Foreign aid only supports corrupt governments the people of that country don't see any of it. Same with charities most are making money to support their lavish lifestyles. It's a pity people didn't ask to see the accounts of these charities they would get a shock.

Great idea, however, I would prefer to give the money back to the taxpayers. The government doesn't have to find new ways to redistribute my money, just send it back.

Yes we need a moratorium on foreign aid for 1 year and let the rest of the world pick it up, 1 year would bring our country to the precipice of wealth.

Charity begins at home. Isn't there enough money grabbing charities asking for just 60 pence a day or only 拢12 a month, what are we doing, funding these countries so they can build up arms against us, when will these countries learn to fend for themselves. Better schooling, cleaner hospitals and children in need in our own country should always be 1st priority.

Absolutely! We are ignoring to many problems at home to be giving money away to other people. If they raise our taxes and still continue give money away that would be dead wrong.Keep in mind I am not saying we should dump the money in the welfare fund so that freeloaders here can sponge off of it. There are a lot of other things we can fix with that money.

With the billions we have given away and aid we have provided countries to be still hated.

I think it is time we pull the plug on helping countries that don't show results.

If Iraq is the gold standard now by liberals.
If we spend money in helping a country grow food and they don't we stop sending them money.
If we provide them education of how to control HIV and still it is spreading stop the funding.
That will cure the problem.

Stop welfare too because we have dump trillions into that rat hole and still we have poor people so that isn't working.

If we stop that aid there won't be poor people.

I am just using the logic of those who want to leave Iraq.

Gordon Brown,at the beginning of his career as chancellor,inherited a surplus of (I believe)拢11b-the last I heard ,(several years ago) in spite of the raids on pensions,stealth taxes and other fund raising ruses was that he then presided over a deficit of about 拢50b! Where did that 拢60b go-I think we need to know!! I, personally would not trust a government (or a civil servant) to run a raffle,at the moment- they would just give themselves a pay rise! Our own back yard dosn`t just need cleaning,it needs to be power washed!!

You mean steal trillions in oil and give back millions in aid. That makes sence.
