Nursing home Vs Humanitarian Aid? |
I'm in a stage of my life, where I need to choose a career and stick to it!. I have been changing goals for so long that I have become a total mess. it has to be your decision and people should respect your decicion as they don't realise how difficult it is. From what I have heard and experienced nursing homes are more about making money the care comes second. Your bent of mind shows that you are sagittariun. Any way keep up your pursuit .You will succeed soon as the God almighty helps those who serve humanity. Both are very commendable and I applaud you for choosing this path.. Both are very much in need but both are very different as well the biggest difference is the long term outcome of your job as a nursing home worker, owner, or whatever your only goal is to help these people die... You do what you can to make their final years enjoyable and pain free but in the end your dealing with death. If that is something that you think you can handle than it is a wonderful place to be and much in need of caring souls who are not just looking for a paycheck. Too many nursing home employees are there only to pay the bills and it is evident in their care of the elderly. If you are lucky you may be able to change that. I worked in a nursing home but quite for hospice because it was tough and to many people didn't care. You can always work at one for pay and volunteer at the other. I've been doing that since I was 17 years old. You won't find a degree program as a nursing home worker or as a humantarian aid worker. You need to look at what types of workers agencies need. There isn't a need for you to choose one or the other. There is no reason why you can't do one now and another later in life, in fact, experience in one of these fields will look terrific on your CV when you decide to do the other. I work as a community worker, and one field can naturally lead to another. My work with people with brain injuries helped me get work as a youth worker with people with intelluctual disabilities which then led me to work with families dealing with mental health. Follow your heart, there are no hard and fast rules. However, if you want to be adventurous and see a new place, look up agancies/organisations that could place you overseas. I'm not sure about the US, but in Australia AusAid is a government run organisation that will find 2 year stints in developing countries. I'd recommend looking something like that up in your home country. There's always the peace corp as well. Good luck, I'm sure you'll make the right decision! |
