Nursing dilemma, an ethical question....?

There is only one person in the world that I could say that I hate. She has caused me so many problems in my life just to pick on me, no other reason. She has even put nair in my hair conditioner at swim practice in highschool. She never stopped this behavior even 10 years after highschool.

She was in a terrible car accident and is under my nursing care. I have been a complete professional and put the past behind me so I can give her the nursing care that she deserves. I don't care if I hate her or not, I don't wish her type of injuries on anyone.

She is dependent on myself and nursing aids to care for her. She is awake and knows what is going on. She knows I am giving her good nursing care so she has not refused me but she is making it very difficult on me by keeping up her shenanigans in the hospital. She is purposely causing problems to irritate me and it is taking my time away from other patients.

What to do?

think this is a psychological issue with her wanting both attention, and feeling self loathing for her condition of having to rely on another person...
perhaps, she knows u are nice, and may want to drive you away to make her self loathing complete...i have a suggestion; try to do something really nice, then talk to her about i dunno, nice things, things that make her feel godd, until you break and strip her entire facade of being evil, until she cries her eyes out. tell her u will be there for her, etc. then once u 'break' her, or strip her facades, maybe you can see the tru pic, or she'll end up loving u till kingdom come...
something like that...

Speak to your supervisor and ask for a release from this patient.

Asked to be removed from caring for her.

You MUST remove yourself from the care of this person if at all possible. By your notes I have no doubt you will mantain your commitment to provide professional healthcare to this woman. However, if any tiny thing goes wrong i highly doubt she would pass up the opportunity to blame you and cause you professional problems. Kick her a$$ to the curb. Someone less vulnerable to her antics she take care of her.

tricky. good for you for staying above board, and doing your job professionally. i would agree with the above answer, you have to let your supervisor know because it sounds like this girl will cause you more trouble once she sees that she cannot get a rise out of you. if you move to another patient, she will feel victorious, so don't give her the satisfaction of running you off. just continue doing your job, and do not engage in small talk with her. let your supervisor know what kind of person she is, and the history, but let your supervisor know that you are the stronger one, and that while you are willing and able to continue doing your job in a professional manner, that this girl is a potential troublemaker.

You should talk to her about it. Tell her its already a different time and age and that she should stop giving you problems as you are trying hard to help her with her state. Also talk to your supervisor about it and see if she can talk to the person or maybe have someone else take care of her.

Keep your malpractice insurance paid in full. This lady sounds like a real peice of work. And yes, ask your supervisor to keep this lady off your team; you need to be focused on caring for patients, not avoiding skullduggery.

You must talk to your D.O.N or administrator. Residents/patients are like this some are very needy, but if you can't take it any longer seek help from a higher up!

give her a get-well gift! buy her the true crime book about charles cullen (nurse who murdered dozens of patients by misuse of medications). That ought to put an end to her nonsense quick!!!

just kidding. I think you should refuse the patient. Tell the super that you have personal issues with her and she is causing trouble for you that she wouldn't cause for another nurse she didn't know. tell them your time would be better spent with other patients who will appreciate your care.

By the way, I commend you on your professionalism. I think many people would fail this life test you've been given.

Smother her stupid @ss with a pillow!!

have another nurse assigned to her...conflict of interest!!!who knows what she'll say you "did" to her. sad, pathetic person. i really feel sorry for her, all the bad karma she is racking up! your job is stressful enough, you don't need her drama or baggage!!! good luck!!!

Ask another nurse to take her...they should be understanding. Unless they are total b*tches.
