Help with my career? |
I need help. I have been a nurse for 8 years. During this time I have had 3 children and did a lot of part-time work, until 2006. That's when I took a full-time job with a national hospice company. I loved my job, and I was good at it. I was fired in November, for no reason. I am collecting unemployment, and actually have involved my attorney. I feel really let down by my chosen career path that has led me to be completly unfulfilled. My question is do I continue in this profession, even though I am dissapointed? I know it was a bad experience, but every nursing job that I have had I have seen many short comings in healthcare. It depresses me, and makes me wish I had never entered this profession. I have though about entering healthcare administration so that I may be able to make some change. What do you think? I have thought about becoming a nursing educator, but that requires a Masters in Nursing. I just don't think I want to put any more time/money into nursing. i think u should not give up but follow ur heart. If you go into adminstration, you could actually have an impact on the quality of care, but remember, as an administrator, the bottom line is, you'll be under pressure to save money and operate the facility in a monetarily efficient way. You know what you might like is teaching nursing at a college. I keep hearing that there is a shortage of nursing teachers at colleges. I was working as a Health Records Technician for more than 8 years and I got a scholarship to continue my career and get a degree in Health Information Management. I guess "Nursing Informatics" is good for you as you know, and you will gain more money. this is one advice It is really tough to buck the system. If you go into administration trying to make changes you may be butting your head against a big old wall. The system tends to protect itself. People that go try to change the status quo are usually done away with. I worked for the government and then became a pastor and tried to make changes in both areas. It didn't work out. |
